Edwin J. Welch

Along with James Murray, Welch was the expedition photographer for the Victorian government relief party to the Burke and Wills expedition in 1861. Welch had the great distinction of personally finding King, the sole survivor.

Included in a collection of sketches by William Strutt who annotated it 'sketched by Welch’. His only known drawing. Pen and ink sketch.

Scenes were painted by professional scene-painters with Welch acting in an advisory capacity and perhaps participating in the one showing him with King.
