Description

Steps Gallery, Lygon Street, Carlton. The Gallery is owned and has been run by the Meat Industry Employees’ Superannuation Fund since 1992.

Wally Curran, Arts officer at Victorian Trades Hall and Noel Flood, Ceramist and Lecturer, were instrumental in discussions to create the gallery. Significant support came from the Steggles family. The Steggles attended the inaugural exhibition opening which comprised of a large number of ceramics works. They wore full length drizabones, heavy gold jewellery and drank champagne.
