Born east of Kiwirrkura c.1955, Fred lived in Warburton, WA before returning to live in Pintupi territory at Kiwirrkura in August 1984. He soon began to paint for Papunya Tula Artists, exhibiting his work for the first time in 1987. In 1989 he won the NT Art Award. His paintings are Tingari Cycle Dreamings in the classic Pintupi style of concentric circles linked by lines of travel, his work being distinctive for its powerful designs and austerely traditional palette.
