war artist and correspondent, came to Australia on lecture tours on five occasions. His first round-the-world tour was in 1880, the second in 1895 when he probably met Arthur Streeton , who painted his portrait (undated but annotated verso 'Portrait of Sir Frederick [sic] Villiers, war correspondent, when in Australia’). He was in Australia when the Boer War broke out in 1899 and he sailed for South Africa.
