Gail Naden is a descendent of the Wiradjuri/Weilwam and Gamilaraay groups, now based in Gilgandra, Western NSW. The artist has worked as a designer and illustrator since the 1980s, and now has her own company: Gurugan Graphics.

Naden’s paintings, predominantly acrylic on canvas, employ a variety of perspectives in their portrayel of the natural world. She depicts environmental phenomena in both grand and minute scale, sometimes employing an aerial perspective or portraying the layers of the earth underground, and often attending to the human presence within the environment.

While some of her works exhibit strong discipline and control with respect to her mark-making and patterning, others, such as dust storm, burran, which was a finalist in the 2005 Parliament of New South Wales Indigenous Art Prize, reflect a freer approach to the textures created by the paint itself. Naden was also a finalist in the 2006 New South Wales Indigenous Art Prize, and has participated in a number of other exhibitions within NSW.
