Sculptor, painter and carver Gary Namponen was born in the Presbyterian Mission of Aurukun in Queensland. He studied art at the Bachelor Institute of Indigenous Education in the Northern Territory. His carvings and bronzed cast sculptures are mostly of animals and bird life. He was taught to carve and paint from his father.
