professional photographer, was proprietor of a photographic studio at 566 George Street, opposite St Andrew’s Cathedral, Sydney, on 29 December 1864 when his premises narrowly escaped a fire which destroyed J.J. Moore’s stationery warehouse. Gardner thanked his neighbours and the fire brigade 'for their great exertions in preventing unnecessary destruction of property’ in the same issue of the Sydney Morning Herald which reported the fire. He remained at this address until 1866.
