professional photographer and photographic dealer, worked in partnership with Jabez W. Small in Melbourne. There from 1864 to 1866 Priston and Small published Photographic News of the Month , considered to be Australia’s first photographic magazine. They exhibited photographs, 'English and foreign, coloured and plain’, at the Melbourne Intercolonial Exhibition in 1866-67. Priston seems to have had his own photographic studio in 1868-79; in 1871 his shop in Swanston Street acted as an agency for Charles Walter 's photographs.
