painter, was in Samoa August-September 1892: his oil on canvas of the Meeting House at Apia was offered Christie’s Australia, Australian and European Paintings , Melbourne 27 & 28 April 1998, lot 159. Most of his paintings done there were purchased by Lord Guthrie and bequeathed by him to the City of Edinburgh in 1926. His original oil portrait of Robert Louis Stevenson painted in Apia was bequeathed to the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in 1915.
