Scenic artist, emigrated from Britain to find work in Australia. He painted View of the Wreck of the Loch Aird , a scene of the tragedy that occurred on 1 June 1878 near the Victorian town of Port Campbell that was added to Batchelder’s touring Colossean Pantoscope in time for its opening at St George’s Hall, Melbourne on 23 July. The scenery was advertised as being after an original picture, and Mimi Colligan has suggested that Grist based his diorama on William Short 's oil painting Wreck of the Loch Aird .
