Wilkinson moved from England to New Zealand in 1880, married Ada Powis and had three children. Moved to Sydney in 1888 where Ada gave birth to a fourth child. In Sydney worked as journalist. Separated from wife in 1898 and moved to Brisbane, Queensland where he commenced his professional artistic career. His paintings include: Early Morning (Winter), Brisbane River (Welsby collection) and Fitz-Grafton and Poseidon (Brisbane Racing Club collection).
