scenic artist and theatrical producer, was credited with painting the moving diorama introduced into the pantomime he produced at the Theatre Royal, Geelong (Vic) in December 1851, Queen Bee of the Fairy Hive; or, Harlequin and the Lady Bird’s Bower . Colligan (101) thinks it was possibly the first pantomime moving diorama in Victoria. The picture had nothing to do with the fairy story, she says, but was 'Exhibiting magnificent and accurate views’ comprising 'St Paul’s Cathedral, …River Thames, and the Lord Mayors show, … Bay of Dublin and Custom House, … Loch Leven Castle by Moonlight;… The great fire in California;… Ballarat Diggins [sic];… Queen Victoria in State opening the Grand Exhibition of all Nations. From an authentic sketch taken on the spot’ ( Geelong Advertiser 26 December 1851; quoted Colligan, pp.101-2).
