painter and statistician, was born in England. Emigrating to Melbourne in 1852, he became the most significant of Australian statisticians during the nineteenth century and was awarded many honours for his work. Hayter had two pictures in the 1866 Melbourne Intercolonial Exhibition, Peter Botte Mountain and Peter Botte Peak (medium unspecified).
