painter, contributed seven watercolours and an oil painting to the first exhibition of the Victorian Society of Fine Arts at Melbourne in 1857 and was listed in the catalogue as a resident artist of 5 Rotherwood Street, Richmond. None of his work appears to have been of Australian subjects, the watercolours being views in Britain and Italy (and two unidentified landscapes) while the oil was called Village Scene . Henry Mills died at his residence, 139 Punt Road, Richmond, on 19 September 1877. The 'H. Mills’ who showed landscapes with cattle at the Royal Academy and the British Institution in 1833-35 from a London address may not have been the same person although he chose equally hackneyed subjects.
