painter, illustrator, author and teacher, was born in Scotland. He came to Australia in 1865 as part of his wider travels. It is unknown if Nisbett temporarily settled in Australia or revisited at a later date but it appears that he spent some time in Sydney given the dates and subjects of his works: a sunset view of Sydney Harbour is dated 1874 and a set of three watercolours of bush scenes is dated 1879. After returning to Scotland in 1879/80, Nisbett exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy (1880/85). He wrote and illustrated more than 23 books and illustrated others.
