Combes was a painter and politician, recognised for his positions as Executive Commissioner for the colony at the Paris Exhibition of 1878, and trustee of the National Art Gallery of New South Wales.
painter and politician, entered NSW political life in 1872 and in 1878 was Executive Commissioner for the colony at the Paris Exhibition. He was appointed a trustee of the the National Art Gallery of New South Wales in 1881, and died 1895. A lady in the landscape dated 1890 by E. Combes or Comber is in Bathurst Regional Art Gallery.
