Painter, born Palmerston North, New Zealand in 1882 – the same year as Elioth Gruner , a fellow New Zealander. He inherited an interest in art and was a keen artist when he moved to Australia with his father and siblings as a young teenager. He had lessons at the Royal Art Society School in Sydney for a time. In 1906 Jackson visited his father and brothers who had returned to NZ, before sailing to England were he studied art in both London and Paris. He made another trip to NZ in 1915 after a brother was killed at Gallipoli. That year the then National Art Gallery of New South Wales first purchased a painting. He had studios in North Sydney, Mosman and Seaforth. His last NZ trip was in 1950, where he received publicity in the press now that his paintings of Sydney Harbour and marine scenes were popular.
