Case showed an early talent for drawing and trained at Brisbane Technical College. He drew cartoons for many Australian publications. A proficient painter, he also exhibited oil and watercolour scenes with the Queensland Art Society in 1910-12 (in 1914, he showed only cartoons). By 1916/17, he had an international reputation as an anti-conscription cartoonist.
