British artist Jean Bird, from the family of William Harbutt Plasticines in Somerset, migrated to Sydney in the 1940s working at a Sydney pottery. She married George Barsony (q.v) in the early 1950s and together the couple formed Barsony Ceramics in Guilford. The firm was highly successful in home decor ceramic lampshades, vases, wall plaques , ashtrays until the 1970s. Jean hand painted the signature black pained figures adding colour touches and motifs, red lips and accessories such as pearl drop earrings. Jean also made the multi stripe coloured plastic lampshades for the figure bases.
