amateur caricaturist {or merely collector}, filled an album with caricatures of cricketers, photographs and newspaper clippings in 1930-33 when living in Adelaide (Mortlock ALB B6 8034, purchased from Phillips Auction House, London, 1996). They include Bradman, Jardine, Mossop à la Cubist, Larwood, Stan McCabe, the Nawab of Patandi and various officials; many are autographed. There is no evidence that Murray drew the caricatures herself. They could be by the cricketer and cartoonist Arthur Mailey or by the South Australian Lionel Coventry, who drew many caricatures of cricketers, eg members of A.P. Chapman’s English touring cricket team published in the London Evening Standard in 1928-29, as well as cartoon anthologies.
