Thangatti painter, Jennifer Solomon, was born in 1942 in Walcha, New South Wales. A former singer and actor, she has worked in the medium of pottery before taking up painting. In 2005, when she was selected as a finalist in the Victorian Indigenous Art Awards of that year, she was enrolled in a Certificate III course in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Cultural Arts at the Gippsland TAFE in Morwell, Victoria. Her inspiration, she says in the catalogue for the Art Awards, is her “cultural and spiritual connection to the land and sea” (p. 31).

She has exhibited in a number of group exhibitions including “Urbaninity 2” at Dante’s Gallery in Fitzroy and “Woor-dungin Nambur” at Latrobe Regional Gallery in Morwell, both in 2005.
