Exhibited in (delayed) third annual exhibition of the [Royal] Art Society of NSW: “Miss Bowkett sends half-a-dozen exhibits. No.132 'A Passing Wind’ is well composed; it represents a little girl, with a bundle of sticks she has gathered, stopping to exchange freetings with a fisherboy, and the colouring is decidedly English. No.146 'High and Dry’ can be looked at more than once: but the portraits 260 and 261 are weak, and inharmonious in colouring. The flesh tints look dirty gainst the bluish background” (Sydney Morning Herald, 21 March 1883, p.11).
“Bowkett, Miss Jessie. Landscape with figures, oil. Remarkable for her careful work and delicate aerial effects” (A.E. Greenwood & H.W.H. Stephen, Catalogue (Descriptive and Critical) of the Art Gallery with Sydney Art Notes, Sydney, 1883).
