Contemporary freelance Adelaide and Melbourne cartoonist, Benke's work has featured several times in the annual 'Bringing the House Down: 12 Months of Australian Political Humour' exhibition, held at the National Museum of Australia.
cartoonist, began his career freelancing for various publications including the Adelaide Review and the Australian In 1987 he moved from Adelaide to Melbourne to work for the Age. In 2001 he was working for the MelbourneHerald-Sun. He exhibited the original of 'Kennett the dealer’, published in the Herald Sun in 1996, in Bringing the House Down: 12 Months of Australian Political Humour (Canberra: NMA/ Old Parliament House, 1997), cat.10. His 'Vote for me’ was included in the 2001 exhibition (acc. NMA website) and he presumably also appeared in the intervening years.
