landscape painter, was listed as such in Low’s Sydney Directory for 1847 when living at 58 Francis Street. Bennett showed Lighthouse, South Head at the 1849 exhibition of the Society for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in Australia in Sydney. Two English landscapes, Landport near Lewes, Sussex and Near the Dyke, Sussex , stated to be by 'J. Bennett’ when lent to the same exhibition, may also have been by him.
