professional photographer, was documenting the mines at Broken Hill in 1893 (see Newton, Shades of Light , 76). In 1895 he was in partnership with John Esmond Pearson and Thomas Cleary . Pierce and Pearson – previously Cleary’s employees at Echuca – ran the branch office at Shepparton while Cleary was at Benalla. In early (or mid?) 1896 the partnership with Cleary was dissolved and Pierce took over the Shepparton business.
