painter, etcher, cartoonist, designer and teacher, was born in Chelsea, London. He came to Adelaide with his parents in 1913 when aged 15. He began drawing soldiers during WWI when in France in 1917 (published in the forces’ newspaper, Digger ) and after the war was commissioned to do 36 pen drawings of cemeteries in France by the Australian Government. Had a long association with the SASA where he studied, lectured (mainly on etching) and became principal. Made several trips to Europe and studied at London School of Arts. Drew and painted for SA government during both wars; was a war artist with the Navy in Japan in 1945. Work well represented AWM (mainly watercolours).

His colour lithographs, Flinders Ranges: South Australia’s Winter Sunland (NLA) and Rest & Relax on the Murray Trip – Rail and River Tours c.1930 (cover & back NLA News December 1999), were done for the South Australian Govt Publicity and Tourist Bureau. He also did many lithographs for magazines (some in British Museum) and was a member of the Painter-Etchers and the Senefelder Club and Graphic Art Society, London. Briefly worked as cartoonist on the Adelaide News after WWII. Married to Doreen Goodchild (see Heritage ).
