painter and sketcher, painted South East View of Shoalhaven Estate, Taken at Cammarong [NSW] , an undated watercolour (Mitchell Library). Its naive style suggests it was the work of an untrained artist. An oil on canvas, Springtime Woodland Stream by John Matthews dated 1862, was auctioned at Sotheby’s Fine Australian and European Paintings Melbourne, 24 November 1998, lot.365.
