Farmer and furniture maker John McLarty specialized in bridge building but also made family furniture. He arrived in 1839 per Hindoo as a servant to Singleton at Dandalup. He later leased the property. In 1856 he bought the property now “Blythewood” and completed a homestead in 1861. He licensed it as the Pinjarra Arms and became an innkeeper from 1860-1890.
