Painter Joseph McIvor from Cooktown, Queensland identifies with his mother’s language group of Guugu Yimithirr. His work has been included in a number of exhibitions including 'Ageless Art’ at the Queensland Museum in 1988, 'Freedom for Culture’ at the Radisson Royal Palms Resort, Port Douglas in 1992, 'You Pla, Me Pla’ at the Cairns Regional Gallery in 1995, 'Gatherings II’ in Brisbane in 2006 and in 'Shifting Tides, Moving Sands’ the Cairns National Aborigines Week Exhibition also in 2006.
