painter, was included as a professional artist in the art exhibition organised by M. Maurice in Launceston in 1885. Joshua Higgs’ watercolour Low Head, Tasmania, 1891 , showing the construction of the 'new’ lighthouse at Low Head was included in Sotheby’s The Colonial Sale , Hobart, on 7 September 1997, lot 35. J. Kerr and G.T. Stilwell noted paintings by Higgs in a private collection, Mt Ireh, Tasmania, in 1991-2. Other Tasmanian watercolours are known, including a view of the Old Toll Gate at the mouth of Cataract Gorge, Launceston (cited McCulloch).
