Joyce Summers was born on the Ukerebah Island Aboriginal Reserve near Tweed Heads in Northern NSW but identifies with her grandmother’s people, the Bidjara people of Charleville, Queensland. Summers paints and teaches art and in 2006 she participated in the 'Gatherings II’ exhibition held in Brisbane.
