Joyce Watson of the Waanyi clan of North West Queensland works in the area of printmaking onto paper and fabric. Her work is the end result of researching her family history and uses the stories of her mother and grandmother and their traditional Waanyi country. “A love story about my maternal ancestors” is how Watson described her work in the catalogue of the 2001 exhibition “Gatherings, Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art from Queensland, Australia”.Watson has work in the permanent collections of Queensland Art Gallery and the Queensland Museum.
