painter and comic book artist, illustrated the first two issues of the sixpenny 'Climax Comic’ The Adventures of Devil Doone , written by A. Carson Gold, which ran from 1948 to the 1970s (ill. Unger, p.74). Her fellow artist on the first issue was Carl Lyon , with Hart Amos for the second. Numbers 3 to 47+ were done by Hart Amos then Gerald Carr. Mendoza drew 'The Oozlum Bird’ in the 15th number of Frank Johnson’s Gem (38 issues, 1946-50), which also contained comics by Gerard Lants , Peter Chapman and Emile Mercier ('Padlock Holmes’). She seems to have been the only woman contributor to the 38 numbers, each containing 4 comics.

Mendoza has lived in the UK since the 1950s, where she is a successful London portrait painter. Her subjects include Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Sammy Davis Junior, Sean Connery, Sir William McMahon, Prince Edward, Sir John Gorton 1972 (official Parliamentary portrait acquired 1972 – the first and only official portrait of a Prime Minister by a woman artist) and Speaker Billy Sneddon 1984 (acquired for Parliament House Col. 1986).
