Khadim Ali's miniature-style paintings open a window to contemporary issues in Afghanistan, in particular the plight of the Hazara minority as symbolised by the destruction in 2001 of the World Heritage site of the Buddhas of Bamiyan. Khadim applies a poetic resonance to his careful creations, using meticulous line work, rich colours, and script, all owing to his training in the Mughul and Kabul miniature traditions.
