Kim Machan has worked in the field of contemporary art for over twenty years and has held the position of Director of MAAP-Multimedia Art Asia Pacific since 1998. Working as an independent curator and producer Machan initiated several projects in the mid 1990s including Art Rage: Art Works for Television involving 70 contemporary artists over four series broadcast on the ABC (1996-2000).
Machan has made several New Media Art research tours through Asia and developed pioneering collaborative partnerships with arts organisations and governments throughout the region. In 2002 she was contributing curator for Media City Seoul, and Co-Chief Curator of the landmark exhibition MAAP in Beijing, In 2004 Machan was Artistic Director of MAAP in Singapore, Singapore Art Museum, and Co-Chair for the associated refereed conference.
In 2006 she curated and produced out of the internet Brisbane, State Library of Queensland, with satellite programs in the Zendai Museum of Modern Art Shanghai, the Museum of Modern Art New York and coinciding with Tate London.
She has also been Chief Curator for many MAAP programs including annual Net Art and screening programs since 1998. She was curatorial advisor to SYNTHETIC TIMES: Media Art China 2008 – a Beijing Olympics Cultural Project presented at the National Art Museum of China. Within this role Machan presented a paper at the Connected Symposium hosted by the Museum of Modern Art, New York and Parsons New School of Design.
She has written regular articles as Art Monthly Queensland correspondent (2002-2007). Machan is currently serving on the board of The Institute of Modern Art, is a member of the Asia Link Visual Arts Committee and is a member of the Media Art History Conference Re:live 09 national committee.
