Lauren Brincat was born in Sydney in 1980. In 2006 she completed her Master of Visual Arts at the University of Sydney.

Lauren Brincat creates performance and object art that often tests her physical and cognitive limits. Brincat’s intuitive performances are enacted in solitude and presented as video documentation alongside her personal and playful sculptures. Early works were imbued with references to rock and roll music, and many featured her performing with various pieces of percussion – drum kits, snare drums, bells and cymbals. Recent works, such as Hear This and Steady as she goes, have seen Brincat document more private, intimate, and spontaneous moments.

In 2012, a new body of work featured in Contemporary Australia: Women at Queensland Art Gallery/Gallery of Modern Art, and Brincat’s work will be shown in How Yesterday Remembers Tomorrow at Artspace, Sydney and in a Museums&Galleries NSW touring program. Lauren recently traveled to the United States to participate in a symposium organised by Dr. Christopher McAuliffe at Harvard University and will feature in a group exhibition, Boo Australia, at Matucana 100 in Chile. Lauren is currently based in Mexico City undertaking a mentorship with CuauhtĂ©moc Medina and has been awarded an Australia Council for the Arts 'Creative Australia Fellowship’ – early career 2012-2013. Lauren Brincat is represented by Anna Schwartz Gallery.
