Biography <p>Les Evans was born in Sydney in 1946. His father was known as one of the Black Princes of Redfern and his grandmother was a Kamilaroi woman from the Coonabarabran area. In the 1980s Les moved to the Namatjira Rehabilitation Haven in Lismore where he started painting. He lives with his partner and his dog Fetish in Lismore. </p><p>

Les won the inaugural 'TAFE Student Acquisitive Award' in 2005 and was awarded prizes in the 'Coraki Tea Tree Art Festival' in 2005. He donated many of his works to different charities and local organisations and his work has been sold to public and private collections in Australia and overseas. ANZ Bank has also bought his works and reproduced them for their credit cards. Les was a counselor at Namatjira Haven; he also taught painting at the Haven and at Lismore TAFE. He later began working for Aboriginal Home Care. </p>
