LESLEY REDGATE
BIOGRAPHY
Born in London 1955, Lesley Redgate emigrated to South Australia in 1967. She began her career as an artist and teacher in 1977. During 1994 and 1997 she traveled to England, France and Italy after winning the Thomas Laird Memorial Traveling Art Study Award. She is represented in the Victorian National Gallery as a result of being selected for the Michelle Endowment Award. Lesley currently is a Lecturer at TAFE SA.
Lesley draws inspiration from the changing rural and urban landscape. Her palette consists mainly of primary and secondary colours, using simultaneous contrast to reflect a vibrancy and visual harmony often found in the harsh Australian environment. Preoccupied with describing structure and geometry within the landscape, Lesley’s work captures the unusual from ordinary scenes recording the history of the area where she lives.
