Lesley Turnbull, painter, b. 1953 in Kaitaia, New Zealand, became an Australian citizen in 1994 and has since shown in over 30 exhibitions. Turnbull’s romantic blurred landscapes evoke the appearance of an old camera lens, travelling through the Australian countryside.
Lesley Turnbull’s work appears as though it is viewed through a camera lens or the window of a moving car. The blurred scenes evoke the nostalgia of travelling through the Australian landscape. Since graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Hons.) from the College of Fine Arts, University of New South Wales in 1999 Turnbull has exhibited widely. She has held solo exhibitions at The Beatty Gallery and PCL Exhibitionists Art Gallery. In 2009 Turnbull was selected as a finalist in the 47th Fisher’s Ghost Art Award. Her work has previously been selected for many prizes nationally including the Fleurieu Art Prize, the Hazelhurst Art Prize, the Mosman Art Prize, the Paddington Art Prize and the Waverly Art Prize.
