Sketcher, in 1819 she received drawing materials from her brother Rev. Thomas Hassall, the well-known 'galloping parson' of New South Wales. No surviving artworks are known.

sketcher, was the eldest daughter of Rowland Hassall and Elizabeth, née Hancox, and the younger sister of Rev. Thomas Hassall, the well-known 'galloping parson’ of New South Wales. In 1819 when Thomas was studying theology at Lampeter College, Wales, he sent several gifts to Mary who lived with their parents at Parramatta. In her letter of thanks in July 1819, Mary wrote: 'The instruments and paint box I have not yet made much use of, but Mr Bagnal [q.v.] has promised to instruct me in drawing when they will be imployed [sic]’. No surviving examples are known. She married Walter Lawry, a Methodist minister, on 22 November 1819 in St John’s Church of England, Parramatta, where her husband later built a Wesleyan church and established a Sunday School. Later they lived in New Zealand and England.
