sketcher, was the eldest daughter of Rowland Hassall and Elizabeth, née Hancox, and the younger sister of Rev. Thomas Hassall, the well-known 'galloping parson’ of New South Wales. In 1819 when Thomas was studying theology at Lampeter College, Wales, he sent several gifts to Mary who lived with their parents at Parramatta. In her letter of thanks in July 1819, Mary wrote: 'The instruments and paint box I have not yet made much use of, but Mr Bagnal [q.v.] has promised to instruct me in drawing when they will be imployed [sic]’. No surviving examples are known. Later they lived in New Zealand and England.
