Max Collard (1909–) was dux of University High School, Melbourne and top Victorian student in the matriculation exam, then studied engineering and architecture at the University of Melbourne. He graduated with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering in 1932 and a Bachelor of Architecture 1938 then travelled to Europe in 1939 on a post graduate travelling scholarship. He became an associate of the RAIA in 1942, a Fellow in 1952 and a Life Fellow in 1970. During World War II, he enlisted in the RAAF and saw active ervice in the Pacific, attaining the rank of Flight Lieutenant. In 1947, he moved to Sydney to start his practice and in 1955 formed a partnership with Guy Clarke. In 1962, the practice became Collard Clarke and Jackson with new partner Phillip Jackson. Max Collard served on the Commonwealth Association of Architects’ Board of Architectural Education, numerous other committees and was a judge for the El Alamein Fountain design at Kings Cross.
