Painter Micheline Abrahamson was born in Cape Town, South Africa, in 1954. With a French Egyptian mother and Russian father, Abrahamson was raised with an awareness of different cultures and customs. She credits her mother with exposing her to a vast range of interests and customs from which she draws inspiration for her work.
Abrahamson painted during her teenage years with encouragement from both parents. At the age of twenty-one she married and started a family and in 1988 the family emigrated to Australia. In around 2000 Abrahamson was able to rekindle her interest in painting and established a studio in her home.
Abrahamson has been inspired by her many trips both around Africa, Europe and the Australian outback. Her use of texture and layers of colours are defining characteristics of her work. Pieces such as African Homeland (2008) and Piece of Africa (2008) typify her use of strongly coloured skies over landscapes against which trees and people are silhouetted. Similar techniques are used in her Australian material, as well as in her European scenes such as Med Sunrise (2007), which depicts cramped housing cascading down mountain faces.
Abrahamson has exhibited her works at the Art Sydney and Art Melbourne art fairs. In 2007, her works were displayed at the Agora Gallery, New York.
