Art Society of NSW annual exhibition 1893: 'Miss Lily Carter’s view of “Bronte Waverley” (166), exhibits a breadth of effect, and an appreciation of the subtleties of form that are seldom found in a woman’s work’ ( Bulletin , 9 September 1893, p.14).
