painter, exhibited a miniature and a pair of flower groups in leatherwork frames with the Victorian Fine Arts Society at Melbourne in 1853 and was listed in the catalogue as a resident practising artist in flower painting. The flowers, which were for sale, were commended in the press, the Argus of 30 August stating: 'Amongst the lady-artists Miss May takes honourable position for her flower pieces’. Eliza May, presumably a younger sister, showed Portrait of Miss May at the same exhibition.
