Place of birth Mongrel Downs area, WA c.1924 of the Warlpiri language/tribe Warlpiri, and lives at Lajamanu. Her country is Jarluwangu and her Dreamings are Ngatijirri (Budgerigar) and Warna (Snake). She started painting in 1986. She is one of five sisters who are all co-wives for an old man known as Jampo (which means left-handed) and who all, except one, paint. Mona and her sister, Peggy Rockman , have received recognition for their work, mainly through exposure at the National Gallery of Victoria, which includes Mona’s painting and pottery.
