art student, had a chalk drawing Jeptha and his Daughter included in the 1863 exhibition of the SA Society of Arts. This was a copy, for the South Australian Advertiser of 10 December noted that first prize in the chalk drawing category had been awarded to Miss A. Rowe but thought the decision to elevate her work over Neville’s must have been difficult 'as they are both faithful transcriptions of the same subject’. He was presumably a pupil at the School of Design under Charles Hill .
