painter, exhibited with the NSW Art Society (RAS). At a conversazione at the Society’s rooms in 1887 'Some good studies in fruit and flower were shown by Mrs Bennett’ ( Sydney Morning Herald 22 July 1887, 7). At the ninth annual Art Society exhibition in 1888 'Mrs J.A. Bennett has some very successful groupings of fruit, bread and cheese, which are real in colour if rather stiff’ ( Sydney Morning Herald 19 September 1888, 12). 'Mrs J.A. Bennett, in Enough is as Good as a Feast , presents a very realistic view of a frugal meal. The bottle, with the triangular trade-mark of Bass’s Ale, is however scarcely raised to the dignity of art’ ( Sydney Mail 22 September 1888, 614). At the tenth annual Art Society exhibition 'Mrs Bennett sends some roses painted with refinement and fidelity’ ( Sydney Morning Herald 5 October 1889, 9). 'Mrs J.A. Bennett’s group of roses are wonderfully natural. The painting is beautiful. They were bought soon after the opening of the exhibition.’ Her roses were later compared with The Roses by Mrs Halligan ( Harriet Piguenit ) ( Sydney Mail 19 October 1889, 868 and 875). At the 1890 exhibition 'Mrs Bennett sends a capital little study of fruit, wine, etc.’ ( Sydney Morning Herald 8 September 1890, 9).

Bennett showed oil paintings at the 14th annual exhibition of the Art Society of NSW in 1893: “No.270 A Bunch of Violets by Miss [ sic ] Jessie Bennett, shows a very pretty flower study that will no doubt come in for its full share of admiration” ( Illustrated Sydney News , 2 September 1893, p.3).
