Born in Lilparu in the Great Sandy Desert, close to Well 33 on the Canning Stock Route, Nora Wompi lived nomadically into her early twenties. In the Balgo mission, she met and married Dick Cowboy, with whom she painted. After a period of living in Fitzroy Crossing, Cowboy died, following which Wompi returned to Well 33. She continued, however, to return to Balgo where she would paint and visit relatives. Themes of her work include spirit dogs, spirit men and love magic.
