Warlpiri speaker, who was a respected community elder, and a leading artist in Lajamanu (NT). His work is in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria.
Born at Watijarra c.1927 and lived at Lajamanu. Paddy was a very dignified gentleman. His brother was Tony Japaljarri Gibson, who died in the late ’80s. His language/tribe was Warlpiri, and his country was Jarripiji (near the Granites), Purrkiji, and Yapakurlangu. His Dreamings were Jangunypa (Bush Louse), Pijarrpajarrpa (Marsupial Mole) and Mala. Paddy Gibson’s work is much sought after by the market and he was recognised within the community as one of Lajamanu’s leading painters.
